Posted Date : 17th November, 2012

PETALING JAYA: Hartalega Holdings Bhd founder and managing director Kuan Kam Hon has been redesignated executive chairman of the glove producer, paving the way for his son Kuan Mun Leong, 36, to helm the company as managing director (MD).

The company said in a statement that 65-year-old Kam Hon's redesignation was effective yesterday.

Mun Leong has been with hartalega for 11 years.

Mun Leong, currently Hartalega's executive director and deputy managing director, has been with the world's largest maker of nitrile gloves for 11 years.

"This change is a good move for the group and it is with great faith that I pass on my responsibilities to Mun Leong, who will undoubtedly embrace this role with great ease and propel us forward in meeting our financial targets.

"By building on our strong operational capabilities and technological innovation, today Hartalega is the world's largest producer of premium quality nitrile gloves with an annual production capacity in excess of 10 billion pieces of gloves.

"This is also not the final chapter for me with Hartalega.

"With my significant shareholding in the company and my role as executive chairman, I intend to actively participate in our business but now from a different perspective," Kam Hon said. He has a 27.6% stake in Hartalega, according to the firm's latest annual report.

Mun Leong joined the company's engineering department in 2001 and was appointed an executive director in 2008. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Monash University, Australia, and an MBA from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland.

"Having been part of the company for more than a decade and getting involved in all areas of the business, particularly these past few years as deputy managing director, this ensures a smooth transition which will guarantee that it is business as usual with positive growth prospects ahead," Mun Leong said.
