The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the Department for Transport (DfT). MCA works to prevent the loss of life on the coast and at sea. It produces legislation and guidance on maritime matters and provides certification to ships and seafarers. TSO works with MCA to help deliver its priorities: to reduce fatalities at sea and to promote and enforce compliance with maritime rules, regulations and best practice. As the official publisher for MCA, TSO produces and publishes a portfolio of guidance that supports and encourages safe behaviour on board vessels. We work with subject-matter experts and industry stakeholders, including maritime unions, shipping companies and key organisations, to ensure that its publications reflect the latest best practice and, crucially, promote safe working and encourage positive behaviour change.
